Sustainable Urban Renewal: Decarbonising Real Estate Construction

Presentation Synopsis:

Buildings account for almost half of global carbon emissions, thus contributing to climate change. While designing and constructing new sustainable buildings help to reduce our future emissions, there is an existing crop of buildings in their midlife, whose efficiencies have dwindled, and which continue to produce high carbon emissions.

Sustainable Urban Renewal is an endeavour to upgrade these buildings through improved architecture, and integration of technology to improve their performance, and thus reduce their emissions. This talk addresses the technologies and building solutions to attain net zero and super low energy status, while meeting decarbonisation goals.

The talk also evaluates the business case for sustainability, and answers the following questions: What is the value of going green? How can we ensure good returns on equity for sustainability projects? How do low-carbon buildings save money – and save the planet? How do we measure the dollar value of sustainability-enhanced projects?
